How to Dress Fashionably?

Do you want to know how to dress well? Do you want to be noticed with an original style?

We have all met someone who dresses very well at some point. The first thing we say to ourselves is, “Wow, if only I could dress like him/her.” But if you look a little closer, you don’t understand how this person manages to make such an impression. It is difficult to know how to dress well because creating a great style is not that simple (well, unless you are signed up with our personal customer service where we choose your clothes for you).

That’s why we give you 7 essential rules! Follow us!

Rule #1: Select the right sizes

The most important step is this one. We all have a friend who owns a beautiful leather jacket for €400, but unfortunately chose the size above: the result is worthy of an 80s rocker, which is exactly what we should avoid. The problem is that it is not so easy to find your size for two reasons. The first is that if we are used to seeing ourselves in clothes that are too loose or too tight, then it will be difficult to break that habit. The second is that if you find your size, some brands cut much wider than others, and vice versa.

How to choose your clothes correctly? There are many techniques, we give you the simplest:

  • Your t-shirt should not cling or sag. The key is that it follows the curves of your body but the fabric needs to maintain some flexibility.
  • Generally, upper body clothing (jacket, sweater, polo, etc.) should have shoulder seams aligned with the edge of your shoulders.
  • Your sleeves should reach between the first knuckle of your thumb and your wrist.
  • In jeans, tight cuts (slim fit, extra slim fit, etc.) are rarely the source of errors. They are in style, and it will be easier to choose nice pants with one of these cuts than with straight-cut pants, for example.

Rule 2: Dress according to your body shape

Overall, there are 6 female body shapes that we have listed in our article. Depending on these shapes, there are clothes to avoid or specifically to favor. A tip that works for everyone is to highlight your assets and hide what you don’t like about yourself.

For example, if you have an hourglass figure, you have generous curves and a fairly large bust, you should highlight the latter. For this, it is necessary to take a t-shirt that is wide enough at the stomach and has a rather deep neckline. Another example, if you have short legs, prefer high-waisted pants that will give the impression of elongated legs.

When you are a man, it is much less complicated: just refer to rule number 1.

Rule #3: Know the basics

This time, the idea is to have the raw materials to create a good dress style. More clearly, you need to have essential pieces in your wardrobe, in order to have simple outfits that work anywhere. How to dress well? One of the answers is to have your set of basics.

This can include:

  • A nice pair of raw jeans
  • A set of simple t-shirts in several colors (white, gray, black, khaki, etc.)
  • A gray trench coat
  • A large knitted sweater
  • A light and airy dress
  • etc.

Once again, we will not go into the topic which can be very long. What to remember: we choose simple pieces, without patterns, in basic colors.

Rule #4: Add other original pieces

The previous two rules have done half the work; you can very well stop there to have an effective style. If you want a style, this is where everything is played. It is thanks to this rule (and the next one) that people will turn to you.

What we generally advise is not to spend a huge budget on the basics, but to choose more expensive original pieces. Why? A basic, as its name suggests, remains basic: you can find them everywhere and at different prices. On the other hand, a more expensive original piece will be of better quality (this is generally the case, but not always, be careful). On one hand, a quality piece will have a much longer lifespan, and on the other hand, it will be much more appealing, and that’s what we are looking for here.

What is an original piece? A jumpsuit, a poncho, a sleeveless puffer jacket, a playsuit, etc., the list can be very long. Some pieces can be original in terms of material, such as suede pieces. Others can also be original by their colors.

Rule #5: Complete with accessories

How to dress well? Thanks to our fifth rule. Closely related to the previous rule, it will enhance your outfit and show that it is well thought out. Although accessories may seem like details, they are not. We will categorize accessories into two types.

The first are small accessories like jewelry: earrings, bracelets, watches, rings, and necklaces, you have a choice! Again, once the subject is broad, but we will try to give you some rules to follow. First, all your jewelry should stay within the same theme: it’s better not to mix gold, silver, leather, for example. Secondly, don’t pile on jewelry. Two or three nice clean accessories will do the trick. Lastly, choose quality. It’s better to have two nice bracelets than a dozen that look very cheap.

The second type of typically feminine accessories: hats, wide-brimmed hats, or handbags. These pieces are much more eye-catching, which is why we wanted to separate these accessories from jewelry. Well, when it comes to handbags, we leave you the choice. However, before starting with hats, what we advise is to have a controlled style because you are stepping onto dangerous ground. If you feel capable of that, then the result can only be beautiful:

Rule #6: Choose the right colors

This step is more optional than other rules, but it allows us to highlight our physique. Indeed, there are clothing colors that will brighten your complexion, while others will only darken it. A very telling khaki color is one that fits very well with people with olive skin. If you want to know which colors suit you, you can refer to our article on colorimetry and the 4 seasons technique.

Rule #7: Inspired by the Internet

There are many blogs, websites, and social networks for inspiration.

In our opinion, Instagram is an inexhaustible source. This fashion-oriented network brings together a large number of photos of original styles. Whether it’s Instagrammers with a thousand followers or a million, many of them have impeccable looks. Well, without naming names, some are a bit (but really a bit) superficial. Try to follow especially those who have a rather “natural” style.

In addition to this famous network, there are also many blogs that talk about trends, fashion, or even lifestyle. To find them, nothing complicated, just type “fashion blog.” So it’s your turn!

How to dress well: not so complicated

In concrete terms, if you follow the first three rules, your dress style will be assured. If you want a more original look, the other rules are for you!
